The roll of film wont fit in my camera(the old film ones, not digital)?

The camera is a Canon Elph 260z, and the way to enter the film is to just drop it in to this area but it seems that the kodak film i got wont fit in there, it is too wide. Does it need some special film or something?I really need some help because i bought it for my mom who is illiterate to digital cameras.
